Ultimate Process

The process of the project was long. It started out with random ideas and then putting those ideas together to create a story. After that, I began drawing out a storyboard, which took two or three attempts until I was satisfied with the shots and angles as well as the story. The creation of the dialogue came next, for me, this was very short because I didn't want people really speaking in the opening of the film because there were characters that would never be seen again and for the serial aspect, it was to keep the mystery. I began sorting out location, weapon choice, and clothing. At first, I chose my friend's house because I visualized my storyboard being played out perfectly at that specific location. I began filming the first scene and had to stop after that because my brother was not in town yet and he was going to be playing the serial killer. Then this all came to an abrupt stop when corona spread and social distancing was in order. Thankfully I had already gotten enough takes with the people I needed before this all happened. I had to make many changes such as location. In addition, I didn't even have the ideal costume because stores were now closed, but again I adapted to this as well. This stopped me from shooting some scenes but I adapted. I began editing and realized how unsatisfied I was with the shots I took with my friends and wanted to reshoot some areas, however, this was not possible so I worked with what I had and edited the scenes. The scenes that were just of my brother portraying the serial killer, I was able to reshoot as many times as needed. I edited a little bit for many days and on the last day of editing, I added some sound effects and that was it, all of the videos were shot by me and are original, however, I did have to take a sound or two of the internet to complete the film opening.

Final edits

As I am making my final edits to my film opening, it slowly all came together. However there are still some areas where the editing needs extra attention, for example getting the music sound too blend together as if it slowly increases. I am using an editing application on my phone to edit,  it is new to me however it is fairly simple to use but it doesn’t have some of things that I want to use such as specific sounds because on the app it only allows you to download music. As I have already mentioned corona has prevented me from using any filming area other than my house and unable to recreate video that I already recorded with other people. I was also unable to get the perfect outfit I wanted to get for the killer because thrifting stores were closed but I used what we had and decided to dress my person in a more casual all black outfit with no shoes because he works on a farm and is poor, also I wanted to show that nothing will get in his way to attacking.

Final

As I am coming toward the final edits of my film opening, it has opened my eyes to a couple of things. It is an art to create a film, just like imagining a drawing and then drawing if you aren’t a professional artist the drawing isn’t going to turn out the way you thought of it in your head. This I what I experienced when watching my opening, I wanted it to look as good as any other film opening movie, however this is my first, and what I imagined in my head I was not able to create an exact replica to film. In addition to the schedule this week I am going to be creating the ccr and posting it very soo. The ccr is going to help explain the entire process of creating the film in addition to what I learned through the process. There are some parts of the film opening that I would like to redo however due to corona my friends couldn’t come over to act out scenes anymore so I have to use what I have. I can still recreate shots from outside my house for the perfect pov of the killer. In conclusion, I an trying to fix the parts that I can to perfect as little detail as possible.

Quarantine Discussion

As the COVID-19 virus continues to spread rapidly, the media has been able to cover the news and spread awareness to others. Applications such as Instagram for example have its own stay home advertisements to persuade people to just stay home as a way to prevent this pandemic from spreading. Another example would be twitter where news of the corona virus is being published so the public is aware of the number of cases in their county or even the fact that the president furthered the quarantine process till at least April 30th. This all together helps provide the public with vital information on how to stay safe and why it is important to do so. Unfortunately the media can be a dangerous place to find information as it can be a completely false statement, this is a reason to look for credible sources and not just rely off of social media. Although social media has been helpful with providing information to the public about the virus, media has another aspect that has been beneficial towards people since restrictions of leaving ones houses began.

Media types such as Netflix, Disney plus, Hulu, Amazon Prime all provide ways to watch movies, shows, and more. In times of containment, boredom can begin to take over and people are now turning to their screens for entertainment. Other sources of entertainment people are turning to are video games, these kinds of media helps pass the time through the hardships of this pandemic. For example, my family watches at least two movies a day now and my brother plays video games for at least three hours a day, since there is nothing else to do.

In addition to the other benefits, one of the most important one is communication. Applications such as Skype to video chat friends or family, near or far away, making sure they are okay and to just get a chat in because quarantine can be very lonely is almost crucial for anybody. Relaxing after realizing your friends and family are okay and finally being able to have a conversation with someone other than your cat is good for anybody psychologically. Even if people do not use apps such as Skype to have a face call there are apps such as snapchat that send pictures that delete right after being opened. This is a quick and easy way to just say hi, and stay connected with others even without necessarily speaking. There is also the trend on instagram where friends will tag other friends to complete a challange and this is just a way to let your friends know you are thinking of them and to also keep in touch with your followers.

In conclusion, the media is what consumes most peoples time during quarantine. The media includes many aspects to help other pass the time such as providing news, movies, TV shows, video games, and also being a main source of communication, weather it is an hour long Skype call or a two second picture sent to a friend, this is the way humans are staying connected through quarantine.

Editing process

Using WeVideo I am transporting all of the videos I took and used the best ones, edited them and cut them to fit the ideal footage I want to use for my film. I am not 100% happy with some of the takes I took but unfortunately I can not film anymore due to corona. With this footage I will just have to edit to the best of my abilities to create the movies idea that I want to present. There are a few changes I could make to make the video better such as adding in shots of the night sky or even the house in general to establish setting and time. The acting was not exactly what I desired however I can try to edit to make sure the piece flows into the accurate tone I want to give off. I also want to completely cut out all noises from filming even voices and go over everything with my own foleys and sounds online, this gives me more and better control of what I really want the audience to hear as well as see all together.

Representation

The two girls preparing for the party are high schoolers and that rebellious and a bit spoiled, explaining how they convinced their parents to throw a party at their house. There isn’t any real importance to these characters other than they are the first ones to die in the film.

The slasher is a not so typical character, unlike Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers, I wanted the audience to create sympathy for him after his tragedy just to show he’s a normal high schooler getting bullied for his sexuality which is quite realistic. In addition to going against the typical Kruger or Myers, Krueger being able able to attack people in their dreams or Micheal being shot at multiple times and still not dying, this person is killable just like any other person, this I feel like creates more realism for the audience which can make it scarier. To do this the killer would be wearing a bunker proof vest or other types of protection under his baggy clothing and fake his death making characters believe he is dead but isn’t, however still killable.
The other side to this character is, growing up uis father was a butcher and wanted his son to do nothing but what he does, so he has seen death since a very young age. These pressures put on him by his father got to him and resulted in flashbacks while killing his animals somethimes, it creates the frustration and anger in him in addition to the bullying that made him want to kill.

Movie

For my film opening, I wanted to allude to conflict and assert a specific tone that will be carried out thorughtout the entire film. To do this I used POV's from the slahsers stand point to show two girls setting up for a huge party. It is early in the night that is why the two girls are the only ones there, however they blast music so loud it could be heard by people fields away. In this particular case the slasher is doing his job of butchering pigs when he hears the blasting music of a party and goes to investigate. There are many shots of the slasher watching as the two girls get ready for the party. In the end the audience sees what the butchere is capabale of by killing the girls. The reason this slasher wants to destroy any chances of high school parties is being he was tramatized at one. Many years before this the killer attended a graduation party that the whole school was invited to, many belived him to be a loner and made fun of him. He went to the party anyways because he secretly has a crush and all night he tried to ge the attention of his crush. When the ''popular'' kids wanted to ''help'' they pranked him. They put a paper bag over his head and told him they were taking him to his crush, when they arrived in the room there was a girl sitting there but the slasher admitted that wasn’t his crush and revealed he was actually gay. So the boys pushed him the pool attempting to drwon him, tore off his clothes infront of everyone, and threw fireworks at him, making him run home naked and resulting in severe burn marks all over his body. This is the past that created and molded the slahser into the person and the reason he kills but this wouldnt be revealed immmedialtey in the movie but rather sudden, abrupt, and through blurry flashbacks.
